Steal the Spotlight is a segment brought to you by winningslips. Here we outline potential superstars for the new season. This list does not contain perrenial football superstars in football, but features players that can potentially make the step-up
in the forthcoming season. The 2015/2016 season witnessed the emergence of Riyad Mahrez, Jamie Vardy, Dmitri Payet and Douglas Costa to mention a few. This article features 10 players that we feel are ready to break into the football elite players list. Enjoy!
Creating this list without Leroy in it would be totally insane right? After his big-money move to Manchester City to unite with top talent guide Pep Guardiola, it’s only a matter of time before he makes the step-up to the next level. Widely hailed by all and sundry as one for the future, there has never been a more perfect time to explode. Working with a couch like Pep would only bring out the best in him. Blessed with pace, quck feet and an amazing technique that belies his age, get ready to experience the best of Leroy Sane this forthcoming season.
Yes Marcus Rashford! While Leicester City’s last season has been widely associated with the word-fairytale(And rightly so!) The red half of Manchester also had their own fairytale if you ask me. All thanks to Anthony Martial’s injury in the Europa league. If you had told Marcus Rashford in January that he would be on the plane to France, he would have probably
laughed hard. But after a smashing season that ultimately culminated in an FA cup win for the teenager, you just gotta marvel at how things have changed so fast!Blessed with pace and trickery and an eye for goal, any improvement on his last season’s goal to game ratio will result in a truly unforgettable season for him as Jose Mourinho has indicated that he plans to use him extensively in the coming season. If his cameo appearances at the euroes are anything to go by, its safe to so this lad is set for greater things this season.
This is one player that’s got everything! A beauty to watch. After a breakthrough season at Real Betis in which he emerged as their go-to-guy and one of their best players, Musonda is definately one to look out for this season. It would be interesting to see how his progree continues based on the huge leaps he has made in just six months of regular football as his loan deal has been extended by another season.
Some might fault the inclusion of Hatem Ben Arfa on this list, but considering how no one was willing to take a chance on the diminutive forward about a year ago, I think Ben Arfa has come a long way. A Newcastle and Hull City reject has this summer become a marquee signing for Paris Saint Germain. The immensely talented player has always had
a poor work ethic and his teammates have in the past complained of a poor attitude. But at the age of 29 and considering the exploits with OGC Nice last season, it is widely expected that he finally justifies his talent.
This player is definately one to watch out for this season. Signed by Dortmond in the summer, it has taken the winger no time to adapt to life at the Signal Iduna Park. He has so far enjoyed a brilliant Pre-Season and we can only hope he carries the form he has shown into the new season. The teenager enjoyed a breakthrough season with Rennes and all is set for him to take it to the next level.
After being the Red Devil’s top scorer in his debut season. This season is one to expect Anthony to finally come of age. With a manager like Jose Mourinho at the helm, one can expect Mourinho to help polish his game the way Mourinho has done with the likes of Eden Hazrd and Angel Di Maria in the past. For large parts of the season he was their best attacking talent. One can argue that LVG’s philosophy affected him a bit. Expect him to explode this season.
Last season is popularly referred to as one to forget for Raheem Stering, but people fail to realise he was at some point their topscorer and also matched his best goals tally across all competitions. It would be interesting to see how the competition between him andd Sane turns out and with a Manager like Pep Guardiola at the helm, I’d say we’re in for something special this term.
The talented La Masia product enjoyed reasonable playing time last season and showed his class in big games like the Classico. At some point in the season, he was Barcelona’s assist leader and would benefit from more playing time this season.
The 19-year old showed class and technical ability that belied his age. Brimming with confidence from winning the Euroes with a number of eye-catching displays, expect Renato Sanches to steal the spotlight this season under the newly appointed Don Carlo.
The 19-year old Nigerian consistently put in a lot of impressive displays. Eventually keeping out 32million man Wilfried Body from the team. Scoring an impressive 16 goals mostly as an impact substitute. Expect him to get even better this season. He might have a hard time getting in the team, but Kelechi has showed us that he’s not one that can be ignored.
