An 18-year-old footballer tragically died on Monday after suffering a cardiac arrest while playing for his Sunday league team.
Tottenham fan Jack Atkinson was taken to hospital after collapsing on the pitch, but passed away the following day.
Atkinson’s friends set up a donations page, which has raised almost £4,000 in less than a day, to help support his family.
They are also attempting to organise a minute’s applause in the 18th minute of Spurs’ match against West Ham on Saturday.
In a message circulated on Twitter, Tyler Rose wrote: “On the 14th of November, 18-year-old Jack Atkinson passed away from cardiac arrest in the middle of a Sunday league game.
“Jack was a massive Spurs fan and loved football. In honour of Jack, can I ask all Spurs and West Ham fans to give a round of applause in the 18th minute at the West Ham game on Saturday, it would mean the world to his family and friends.”
Numerous club’s have since paid tribute to Atkinson, his family and his club, Holland FC.
League Two Colchester United wrote: “The thoughts of everyone at Colchester are with Holland FCand the family of Jack Atkinson after the sad news at the weekend. Rest in peace.”
The Essex County FA added: “It’s with regret that we hear of the sad news from Holland FC this weekend of the passing of a young player. We offer our condolences.”
