Simunovic almost joined Torino on deadline day, but remained at Celtic Park after a deal fell through due to alleged fitness concerns – although the Bhoys defender later claimed the Italians had changed their initial agreement with the Scottish champions.
But having returned to both fitness and form in the meantime, Torino are now said to made Simunovic their main winter target.
According to the Scottish Sun, Sinisa Mihajlovic’s side have “pledged to return” for the 22-year-old after agreeing to sell Casare Bovo – although Celtic are likely to demand “considerably more” than the £3 million they wanted in the summer.
That should not be a problem, however, with the report adding that Torino – who already have England number one Joe Hart on their books – are planning to spend big next month.
Since his return from injury in September, Simunovic has been a regular in Brendan Rodgers’ side and with three centre-backs – Kolo Toure, Efe Ambrose and Eoghan O’Connell – out of contract next summer, the Ulsterman may want to keep him at Celtic Park.
