The Ecuadorian will undergo surgery on the injury that he picked up in the EFL Cup win over Manchester City today, with the club not yet putting a timescale on his return.

“They were the three players that start almost every league match and now we lose all three in the same period,” said Mourinho ahead of the Burnley game.

“But that’s football and it’s an opportunity for others to play. We trust Darmian and we trust Rojo to have a positive influence.”

Valencia has made 11 appearances in all competitions this season, becoming one of Mourinho’s key defenders.
