Istanbul Basaksehir vs Club Brugge predictions for Wednesday’s Champions League clash in Turkey. Istanbul Basaksehir and Club Brugge face off in the Champions League after contesting a thriller last week. Read on for all our free predictions and betting tips.
Last week’s Champions League tie in Belgium was easily the game of the week, as Istanbul Basaksehir and Club Brugge faced off in an absolute thriller. The hosts went 2-0 up early in the first half, but an inspired second half performance from Istanbul Basaksehir saw them score three goals in 14 minutes to put themselves 3-2 up. It only took another five minutes for Club Brugge to equalise though, with the game ending 3-3 after 90 minutes.
This obviously gives Istanbul Basaksehir quite a big advantage coming into this second leg at home. All they need to do is avoid defeat and not concede more than two goals and they will qualify for the playoff round.
This would be a fantastic achievement for a club that was only founded in 1990 and only returned to the Turkish Super Lig in 2014. They finished 2nd in the table last year, securing them their first ever Champions League spot. The hosts previous forays into Europe have seen them lose to AZ Alkmaar and Shakhtar Donetsk in the Europa League qualification rounds, with their only win being an away goals victory against Rijeka last season.
Club Brugge are a much more established outfit in Europe, but it’s not always been successful for them. They made it to the Champions League group stages last season but that was the furthest they had been since 2005, and many of their recent seasons have been spent in the Europa League.
Away from home Club Brugge have won three, drawn two, and lost nine of their last 14 Champions League games and they haven’t won since 2005. They have scored in three of their last five though, and after last week they will feel confident about finding the net again on Wednesday.
Despite Istanbul Basaksehir’s brief record in Europe they have scored in two of their three home games, but they’ve conceded in both of those too. Given how last week panned out, we think odds of 4/5 for Both Teams to Score is fantastic value. We’re also backing a 3-1 win for Istanbul Basaksehir, due to Club Brugge’s shocking away record in the competition last season.
