Former player Gerry Francis has been speaking to Sky Sports’ Premier League Daily (broadcast on Wednesday 12 December) about Leeds United’s chances of winning promotion back to the top flight this season.
The Whites are flying high under manager Garry Monk, their 2-0 victory against Reading on Tuesday seeing them move up to fifth in the Championship table, just two points off the third-placed Royals with 21 matches played.
When asked if Leeds could make it back to the Premier League in time for next season, Francis told Sky Sports, “Absolutely. I think Garry has done a fantastic job there.
“He’s changed them from being a very inconsistent team to a team. So I think a lot of credit needs to go to him. It’s a massive club, well supported and certainly they are having a good run.”
Leeds may be doing well right now but they will be all too aware of the demands of a long Championship season and they will need all their players fit and firing for as much of the campaign as possible.
Summer signings such as Pontus Jansson, Kyle Bartley and Luke Ayling have impressed while the Whites continue to give their next generation a chance.
Ronaldo Vieira is the current jewel in the crown and it will take a mixture of youth, experience, talent and luck to ensure Leeds are there or thereabouts come May.
