Can Daddy play for Leeds instead? What son of Aston Villa star said during Thursday’s fixture

Ross McCormack’s lack of action for Aston Villa has allegedly prompted his five-year-old son to ask if his dad can play for Leeds United instead.

McCormack has started just 11 Championship fixtures since his £12 million summer move from Fulham, and began Thursday’s visit of former club Leeds on the bench.

Despite leaving Leeds after four years in 2014, McCormack’s son Layton continues to follow Garry Monk’s side and was a mascot at this month’s reverse fixture at Elland Road.

Leeds are said to be seeking a new striker next month, although McCormack’s soured relationship with Whites owner Massimo Cellino – not to mention the probable costs involved – makes the Scot’s return to Elland Road unlikely, at least in the immediate future.

The departures of Villa strikers Jonathan Kodjia and Jordan Ayew to the African Cup of Nations should present McCormack with an extended run in Steve Bruce’s side next month.
