Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce is expected to busy in the January transfer window, and he highlighted his desire to bring in two signings, if the club can complete the sale of Rudy Gestede, as quoted by the Express.
Strangely, it is not another striker that Bruce wants to bring in, despite the possibility of losing one of his forwards.
He is instead more interested in signing a centre-back and a midfielder.
The Villans currently sit in ninth position in the Championship table, although they have played a game more than all the teams in and around them, and Bruce will certainly want to bolster his squad during the transfer window.
The Villa boss told reporters where he wants to strengthen, and how he will have to sell one player in order to do so, as quoted by the Express:
“I’ve got six centre forwards and I’ve got to maybe sell one to buy in a midfield player or another defender.”
If Gestede leaves, Villa will be heavily reliant on Ross McCormack throughout January, with Jonathan Kodjia set to depart for the African Cup of Nations with the Ivory Coast.
Now is the time for Villa to really kick on, and whether they will be able to do that without signing a striker in January is very much debatable.
