Aston Villa suffered a first defeat under the guidance of new manager Steve Bruce yesterday. They were defeated 2-0 by promotion chasing Leeds United – who moved up to fourth in the Championship league table with this result.
Villa fans were left disappointed by a performance from Villa that lacked a cutting edge, with no doubt over the player most of the Villa faithful blamed for that issue.
Bruce again decided to go with Benin striker Rudy Gestede up front with Jonathan Kodjia and Albert Adomah either side of him.
But he was anonymous throughout the game and Aston Villa fans had no idea why he was chosen for this fixture, with his attributes playing into the hands of Leeds defensive dup Kyle Bartley and Pontus Jansson.
Villa had Jack Grealish, Jordan Ayew and Gabby Agbonlahor on the bench and it appeared that Aston Villa fans would have preferred to see one of those names on the starting sheet ahead of Gestede.
Bruce has won over a lot of the Villa fans quickly since taking over at the club but his use of Gestede is not a popular move.
